K-pop hip-hop idol groups Block B and BTS have been recently announced to appear in the upcoming 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA).

CJ E&M confirmed on November 11 that the two groups will be performing on the highly anticipated music event's red carpet on December 3, Mwave reports.

This year has seen several accomplishments of the two groups. Block B released their fourth album "HER," which received overwhelming support from their fans. The group topped several music charts offline and online.

However, Zico's recent solo debut was met with controversy. The idol and his record label were criticized by international netizens for the use of derogatory words in the lyrics, as well as the display of the confederate flag in the MV of his track "Tough Cookie."

Zico's agency, Seven Seasons, recently issued an apology to those who were offended by the words used in the song's lyrics. It explained that the particular word that gained much of the criticisms was in common usage among hip-hop songs in Korea and that the issue was made bigger as Zico is part of an idol group.

Meanwhile, BTS released their first official album and recently promoted their track, "War of Hormones" which received positive comments and support from K-pop fans.

MAMA 2014 will be held on December 3 at Hong Kong's Asia World Expo Arena, which is the country's largest venue.

The red carpet event will be attended by numerous Korean and Asian celebrities. It will also host various artist performances, Soompi reports.

The first lineup of performers for the upcoming award ceremony was previously revealed. The performers who have been confirmed to grace the event with their performances include EXO, as well as Big Bang's G-Dragon and Taeyang.

Voting for MAMA 2014 is ongoing and will close on December 2. K-pop fans may cast their votes here.
