NBA Rumors: Ray Allen to sign with a contender soon according to league sources

By

After a legendary career, Ray Allen has nothing to prove in the NBA. From becoming an All-Star, to winning an NBA championship, to setting the best record in three point shots made by a player in league history, Allen has done it all. Teams, however, are still vying for his services even though they are not sure whether he still want's to play one final year at his advance age of 39.

But numerous sources around the league believe that we may soon be seeing Allen wearing an NBA jersey some time this season. Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel noted the following on Allen: "I think he's just waiting to see how the situation sorts itself out in Cleveland (or with the Clippers?), as well as waiting for some of the grueling stretches of the schedule to pass."

Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders also shares Winderman's view saying: "Allen hasn't officially announced whether he'll play this season, but many people around the league believe he'll sign at some point during the campaign."

The question now is where will Allen end up playing? Numerous teams around the league will surely love his veteran leadership and clutch shooting but its unlikely that he will be singing with a team that is not a legit contender (sorry Milwaukee Bucks fans but Allen won't be making a home coming this season). Per Scott Polacek of Bleacher Report:

If Allen is going to wait until midseason to sign somewhere, it would make sense that it would be a contender. Teams like Cleveland, Chicago, San Antonio and the Los Angeles Clippers could come into play, although almost everyone in the league would likely be interested to some degree.

Cleveland has long been considered as the top destination for Allen because of his relationship with former teammate LeBron James during their glorious days with the Miami Heat. Plenty of other contenders though, are expected to make a strong bid on the veteran shooter.
