American actor and record producer Nick Cannon is a co-producer of a Nickelodeon TV show titled "The Drop," which is quickly becoming known as "K-Pop High."
According to KpopStars, the show will be presented in a musical comedy format which will be taking place in an international boarding school. "The Drop" tells the story of three female students who do not know each other and will later find out that they all have similar interests in K-pop.
It was previously reported that the upcoming show will be co-produced by Cannon's company, Ncredible Entertainment, and DHX Media.
24-7Kpop revealed that no announcement has been made about the cast of the upcoming thirty-minute TV show. However, the site reported that the production will begin in December or early next year.
Since the news broke, K-pop fans have expressed their excitement for the show, while some expressed their concern on how K-pop will be portrayed in a show set in America.
Some K-pop enthusiasts even went as far by starting a petition to stop "The Drop" from airing. The petition, which was started by Ananya Nair from the United Kingdom, believes that the general public are close-minded and tend to judge a different culture and that the show would have negative effects in the growing K-pop community.
As of November 17, the petition has already received more than 6,000 signatures.
Meanwhile, following the unexpected success of global hit "Gangnam Style" by K-pop artist Psy, Korean pop music has been featured in several American television shows such as "Glee," "Selfie," "So You Think You Can Dance," and "America's Next Top Model."
Other than their music, South Korean dramas are also getting popular not just in Asia, but also all over the world. U.S-based broadcasting companies, such as ABC and FOX Networks have bought the rights to several hit Korean TV series.
ABC will be having a remake of the hit series "You Who Came From The Stars," which starred Jun Ju Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun.
FOX, on the other hand, will be creating their own adaptation of another phenomenal drama, "Answer Me 1997," which will reportedly be set in 1999.
Meanwhile, there is no news yet as to when "The Drop" will premiere on Nickelodeon.
