South Korean singer and actor Rain was involved in a nude photo scandal a few days ago and now he has taken a step to punish those behind the spread of the malicious photo.
Both the actor and his record label, Cube DC have already denied that Rain is the naked man in the photo. However, the controversial photo was spread containing a message claiming it was Rain. The Hallyu star's party decided to file charges against those who leaked and spread the photo.
KpopStars reported that Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji Hoon, has already filed charges against the person behind the scandalous photo including up to 30 people to have reportedly spread it further.
Rain's representing lawyer, Kim Na Heun, was interviewed by MBC's "Section TV." "On November 13, through Rain's agency, we became aware of the vicious rumors spreading on the internet and verified that they were all false," said the attorney. "We came to the conclusion that the rumors were all ill-natured and filed charges of Distribution of Falsehood and Defamation of Character."
According to Koreaboo, "Section TV" further reported that the Cyber Investigation Team of Gangnam Police Department's has already received the filed charges as well as the lawsuit's purpose and claims.
"Including the original leaker, an additional 20 to 30 individuals were charged and sued," Kim added.
"We plan to take strong legal action and will decide the severity of the punishments after observing the whole situation and lawsuit as it proceeds," explained Kim.
The lawyer also disclosed that if the accused are found to have slander motives against Rain, they may face imprisonment for up to seven years or a fine of up to 50 million won (or roughly $45,500).
In a report, Allkpop claimed that the photo was spread with the message, "Rain's girlfriend Kim Tae Hee lost her phone, and his naked photo has been leaked." Rain's lawyer responded saying the actress never lost her phone and that the case is executed with an "ill-natured purpose."
