"The Vampire Diaries" Christmas episode is set to air on December 11, and it will hint at better times for Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) while it remains unconfirmed whether they're on their way to getting back together.
IB Times reports that the show might offer some relief for frustrated "Delena" shippers in the upcoming Christmas episode. The season has been testing the resolve of fans by having Damon and Elena separated for the first half of the season, with Elena eventually agreeing to having Damon's good memories erased. Now that Damon has returned, Elena's reaction towards him has been unpleasant, but apparently, Elena now wants to get her memories back.
Unfortunately, according to IB Times, "Damon is back to thinking that she is better off without him." It doesn't seem like the two will be back together soon, but there might at least be something good in store for the two on episode 10, the Christmas episode entitled "Christmas Through Your Eyes."
According to showrunner Julie Plec, who spoke to E! Online, the estranged lovers might encounter a mistletoe come Christmas, but Plec refused to divulge whether a kiss will be happening or not.
Despite the possibility of a kiss, IB Times doesn't believe that it will be smooth-sailing from then on. "Even if they do kiss, they probably won't be back together just yet-after all, Damon and Elena have never had an easy relationship," the article theorizes.
However, Wet Paint thinks this could be the start of something else, saying, "Shows rarely give their couple an awkward kiss unless they have something even more romantic in store for them."
Apart from the hint at a "Delena" moment, the episode will focus on Bonnie (Kat Graham) and her Christmas traditions.
Before the Christmas episode, "The Vampire Diaries" has Damon wanting to rescue Bonnie from the Mystic Falls 1994 loop she is stuck in, and Elena, on board with Liv (Penelope Mitchell) and Alaric (Matt Davis) will embark on the mission. Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen) will also react surprisingly to the news of Bonnie being alive, shares another IB Times article.
