Say his name three times, and he appears - that was how 1988's iconic supernatural being, Beetlejuice, was to be summoned. Now, as rollingstone reports - almost three decades (27 to be exact) after the titular character's first movie, the "ghost with the most" has been rumored to have a return to the big screen.
While Christianpost reports that rumors of a second movie were circulating since the 1990's it was only around 2012 when things started to shape up for another installment to the 80's horror/comedy favorite.
The actors who played their respective roles on the first installment were also enthusiastic and stoked to hear about the rumored sequel and the chance to be reprising their iconic roles. One of these people was Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton (RoboCop (2014), and Need For Speed). According to a quote from Rollingstone, the Birdman star stated that it (Beetlejuice) would be something he would like to do again;
However, during an interview with MTV last month, Keaton stated that the movie has yet to have a script, but then again, he also stated later that a lot of what mad the first movie successful, was because of its Director, Tim Burton's, creativity.
Winona Ryder (Home Front, Edward Scissorhands), who played the young gothic teenager and medium Lydia Deetz, has also been in the talks and has also expressed her interest in the rumored project earlier this year. The Daily Beast quoted the 43-year old actress:
" I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later".
As of late, Ryder has been "sworn to secrecy" regarding the development of the project.
Kdramastars also reports rumored addition of Marvel's: The Avengers, and The Avengers: Age of Ultron frontliners, Tom Hiddleston and Robert Downey Jr. to the cast for the eighties movie's sequel. The Movie News Hound, as per Kdramastars, reports that while Downey has been considered for a role and has hinted on being open to the possibilities he would have one condition - To include The Avengers' Loki; Tom Hiddleston in the cast. Downey has also shown great interest in working with Tom Hiddleston as indicated from one his past interviews, Kdramastars further reports.
Tim Burton has also been rumored to be directing the second movie. Tim Burton's works include 2012 animated movie hit Frankenweenie, Edward Scissorhands, and Dark Shadows. He is set to release his latest biography/drama movie, Big Eyes, on December of 25 of this year, as per IMDb.
