Moto X and Moto G are among the first to get Android's latest offering, Android Lollipop. Second generation Moto G devices as well as other Motorola smartphones will also get the update soon.
According to Latinos Post, Motorola announced the update on their blog on November 12, saying that Lollipop, or Android 5.0, will shortly be on Motorola devices. Motorola's post says that the updates would come for Moto X Pure Edition, Moto G Global SSM retail version, and Moto G US GSM version.
"The second generation Moto X 2014 Pure Edition, the second generation Moto G US Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), and the second generation Moto G Global GSM retail version have all received the newest Android operating system update," Gospel Herald reaffirms. According to the website, Motorola was able to get the updates around the same time that Google updated their flagship Nexus devices because Motorola was the manufacturer behind them.
Other devices, such as Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Mini, an Droid Maxx, will also be getting the update, shares Latinos Post, citing a Motorola blog post in October.
IB Times adds that Moto G's 2013 version may also get the update. Moreover, IB Times reports, "The first-gen Moto G smartphones in India have reportedly begun a Soak Test custom version of Android 5.0."
While waiting for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to come to first-gen Moto G smartphones, Android 4.4.4 KitKat is available for the device via over-the-air update. The handset came out of the box with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
The update, which Motorola calls its "most ambitious release yet," brings the Material Design to Motorola handsets along with Google's promised improvements. Latinos Post lists some of the improvements as including "a bold, new visual style with new colors, typography and edge-to-edge imagery; new Downtime and Interruption settings that allowed users to check the notifications straight from the lock screen on their phones; and a Guest mode for those who shared their devices."
