Fans of CBS Network's hit show, 'The Mentalist' are in for a welcome surpise as the seventh and final season kick started this Sunday, The season opened with Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) and Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) working on a particularly mind-numbing case.
However viewers will be even more intrigued because after six months of waiting, Lisbon and Jane have developed a somewhat "office romance" and have become a couple. At the end of season six, Jane and Lisbon had both declared their love for each other. By the looks of the first episode, the two will keep their romance under wraps from their co-workers.
However, the show's creator Bruno Heller told fans to not expect a 'fiery romance' between the two. He told reporters in a conference call earlier this week that he wanted to portray the romance and reflect Lisbon and and Jane as the "self-contained and protective" people that they are.
"Season 7 is not 'Fifty Shades of Grey' done by 'The Mentalist,'" Tunney told TV Line during an interview. Heller further explained that the Jane-Lisbon romance is "a very sort of Jane Austen type of romance... between two people you've known for years, and you can see they are made for each other not in a fiery, crazy way, but in a human, gentle, correct way."
The new couple would also meet some challenges when it comes to meeting their old flames. Lisbon's ex fiance, Pike (Pedro Pascal) will be returning for the seventh season. In the previous season, Lisbon dumped him after accepting his proposal. Pike will then find out why Lisbon dumped him, and he definitely won't be happy about it. Another flame set to make a comeback appearance is Erica Flynn (Morena Baccarin). Being the only woman to have put up a match for Jane, she will certainly make Lisbon feel jealous. While Flynn hasn't been seen since Season 4, she will definitely put the moves on Jane.
The final season will also introduce a new agent in the character of Michelle Vega (Josie Loren). Being a rookie, she is taken aback by Jane's tendency to bend the rules.
Intrigue, romance, murder and drama will certainly play up the final season of The Mentalist. Fans will definitely find themselves more hooked than ever!
