It is awards season once again and new stars are arising along with new movies to inspire a lot of people out there. That said, "A Most Violent Year" was just awarded by The National Board of Review on December 2, for best film, best actor and even best supporting actress. All these recognitions are making it possible for an Oscar Nomination.
According to Reuters, Oscar Isaac won best actor along with Michael Keaton being the washed-up actor in the movie "Birdman." Meanwhile, it was Jessica Chastain who snagged the Best Supporting award for playing Isaac's wife in the movie.
Eonline also reported that Julianne Moore did a great performance in her movie "Still Alice," which made her also worthy of winning the Best Actress Category. Playing a middle-aged woman who works as a professor with early signs of Alzheimer's disease is something that moved a lot of her audience.
The National Board of Review has taken notice of other films that were exceptional such as "Birdman," as it won the Best Feature Film category during this year's Gotham Independent Film Awards. But for them, they chose "A Most Violent Year" to win that category.
This is not the first time that NBR has made their own choice to award who they think is the best, creating a huge surprise for a lot of people. Huffington Post said that last year they also did it when they picked the movie called "Her."
That film was expected to run for Best Picture at the Oscar Awards. Lots of actors from that movie were given proper recognition such as Emma Thompson (Best Actress) and Will Forte (Best Supporting Actor) just to name a few. This year's NBR has indeed a lot of contenders and hopefully they would share the same path that winners of last year have had.
You can watch "A Most Violent Year" as it opens in cinemas on December 31.
