“Red Band Society” Showrunner Rina Mimoun Promises Character Death in First Season in Hopes of Gaining Fans Support for Serie's Continuation

Things doesn't seem to be looking good for hospital-themed drama "Red Band Society" after Fox decided to pull off the show from schedule after airing its winter finale. And while there is no final decision on whether the show will be cancelled or not, even the airing of the final three episodes seems bleak at the moment.

According to IBTimes.com, the show started off strong with 4 million viewers during its premier. However, it quickly lost its impact with its tenth episode only hitting 2.49 viewers. The unstable ratings pushed Fox to order four more scripts instead of producing the last three episodes which were supposed to air next year.

But while the studio's decision sounds more like a death sentence, showrunner Rina Mimoun is keeping her hopes up for the show. In an interview with TVline, she defends that "Red Band Society" was in fact, never really pulled from schedule.

"We were always airing our first 10 episodes, and then going off for the holidays. That's why we built toward this cliffhanger." She adds, "If [this episode] will end, it will leave you hanging!"

On the other hand, she also believes that a show like "Red Band" is better to work in shorter cycles. In an article by JustJared, Mimoun shares that she felt it is a good creative decision since keeping the kids in the hospital for too long will be challenging the credibility of the series.

Despite this, she encourages fans to continue supporting the show. And as far as the plot goes, she promises to make a truly compelling season by cutting off one of the show regulars by the end of season one (via Enstarz).

"By the end of the season, there will be a death. I know. We had to go there. We had to. Come on. It's Red Band. We had to do it, but it could be any one of them."

What do you guys think? Will a character death be enough to revive the show? Or will "Red Band Society" join the ranks of cancelled series' this season?
