Samsung and Apple are at it again with their upcoming flagships namely, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 7. The two companies' rivalry is highlighted once more as people look forward to who will dominate the market next year.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Expected to be Announced First
Samsung is expected to launch their newest flagship, the Galaxy S6, earlier than Apple's iPhone 7. Its expected debut is as early as the first week of January 2015, at the International CES, or the following month, at the MWC 2015, with the expected release following in March.
Both Motley Fool and ZDNET quoted Samsung VP Lee Chang-hoon hinting that the S6 may have a flexible OLED display. "We will secure production capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 [flexible displays each month] by the end of the year," ZDNET quoted Lee, who added that no other company will have a production that great by the year 2016.
Aside from possibly having a flexible OLED screen, other rumored specs leaked include a QuadHD 2560x1440 px screen (size not yet disclosed); a 16 MP main camera with a 5MP front-facing camera; 64-bit processors (the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 for units in the USA and the Exynos 7420 for other countries); 32, 64, and 128 GB internal storage with microSD/SDHC expansion of up to 128 GB. The S6 is also expected to run the latest version of Android, Lollipop 5.0, out of the box.
Apple iPhone 7 Rumored Specs Limited
Meanwhile, rumors about the specs of the iPhone 7 are limited as of this time. According to ValueWalk, the iPhone 7 may be released sooner than the usual expected fall release of Apple's flagships due to the positive sales performance of the iPhone 6.
Rumors of the iPhone 7's possible specs include an HD SuperAMOLED screen made of sapphire glass and Liquidmetal (the material also rumored to be the iPhone 6's screen back in fall), equipped with 3D capabilities; an A9 processor; and a 21 MP main camera as noted in Tech Radar. Apple is not expected to divert too much from its signature iPhone design.
Neither Apple nor Samsung commented on the rumored specs, nor have they revealed when their highly-anticipated flagships will be announced officially.
