The midseason finale of "Arrow" has just aired, and it's an episode that's going to blow a lot of fan's minds.
For one reason and one reason alone: at the end of "The Climb," Oliver Queen duels Ra's al Ghul on a snowy mountaintop. Oliver loses.
Then Oliver gets impaled through the chest with a sword, then hurled off the mountaintop to his death.
Kind of an awkward thing to do to the main character of your TV show.
Naturally, the response to this unbelievable death has been overwhelming. Entertainment Weekly's recap of the episode, for example, just opens with a string of all-caps swear words.
"WTF?! HOLY S---?! HUH?! NO THEY DIDN'T?! I CAN'T EVEN!"
As well, Marc Guggenheim, showrunner for "Arrow," describes a similar feeling when he told TV Line how "Arrow" fans will likely react to the episode.
"'What the f-k?!' That's the best way I can put it. In the very final moment, we go to a place that no one is expecting us to go."
Guggenheim called the mid-season finale "a really big turning point" and "pivotal, as well. "So many big things happen that Episode 10 was designed to just deal with the aftershocks. And when you need an entire episode to deal with fallout, you know that quite a bit has happened!"
Comicbook.com was able to find a copy of the promo for the first new "Arrow" of 2015, which offers a few hints on where the series might go with a dead Oliver. And yes, a dead Oliver, because the promo blatantly states that "Oliver Queen is dead."

Depending on your knowledge of DC Comics, you might have an idea where the show is headed from here... perhaps to the Lazarus Pits?
