"True Detective" is on a roll right now.
When the Golden Globes were announced this week, the HBO mystery anthology cleaned up, landing four major nominations in the TV category. The series was nominated for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture, Best Actor, Mini-Series or Motion Picture (for both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson), and Best Supporting Actress for Michelle Monoghan.
In any other year, a series as outstanding as "True Detective" would be a shoo-in for the win, but this year, the show is in contention against another extremely strong series, "Fargo." As far as the Golden Globes, go, anything goes. At least between those two.
But the first season isn't hogging all the glory this week. Deadline reports that Ashley Hinshaw is set for a role in the second season. Reportedly, she'll be playing a "troubled starlet" in a significant arc, but any more story details than that are being kept under wraps.
But that's par for the course with the second season, all we really know now is that it'll star Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Vince Vaughan, who will "navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder." Which was more or less the story for the first season.
Now, for weirder casting news. The Hollywood Reporter has another name joining the HBO series in season two - Rick Springfield. As for what Springfield's doing in the seedy underbelly of "True Detective," well... no one knows. The Hollywood Reporter has no details - not the character, not the number of episodes he'll be in. But according to Springfield's Twitter habits, we at least know that he has scenes with Farrell and McAdams.
It's our sincerest hope that he sings "Jessie's Girl" at least once (but preferably at least thrice) during the new season.
