Because of the massive Sony hack, the leaked email exchanges between executives of the company and of Marvel revealed a failed deal that would have churned out several projects based on our favorite web slinger hero. On the other hand, new reports are suggesting that Marvel might opt out to make their own "Spider-Man" franchise and pay Sony a cut in the profits.
Latino-Review.com said that should this particular deal would move forward, the new "Amazing Spider-Man" film series would definitely no longer feature Andrew Garfield.
"Marvel's desire to remove Andrew Garfield from the role was a major point of contention with Sony's Amy Pascal, traditionally a stalwart defender of the talent in her films. However, current events leave her positioned slightly weakened," the site reported.
Screenrant said that this made sense, considering that Garfield's impressive performance as a troubled superhero might be detrimental to Marvel's success in their future "Amazing Spider-Man" projects simply because the British actor's presence might have fans associate the said projects to Sony.
On the other hand, Cinemablend said that both of the companies are reportedly spending time to mull over their "Spider-Man" plans. Sony executives are said to be going on a "Spider-summit" in January over their franchise plans while Marvel has other superhero movies already lined up at least until 2018. But if they're going to ask Garfield's opinion about Peter Parker passing the torch to the comic book character Miles Morales, the British heartthrob appears to have given his thumbs-up sign on the 13 year-old Hispanic.
"Miles Morales was a huge moment in this character's comic book life. And I do believe that we can do that. It's something I'm really interested in figuring out; an eloquent way of coexisting, or passing on the torch. I don't have an answer, but I think it's actually a really important move. I think it's a really beautiful and important move," he told Comic Book Resources.
