RUMOR: "Amazing Spider-Man 3" On Shaky Ground, May Be Cancelled if "Sinister Six" Flops

By

Sony's "Spider-Man" film franchise has been the subject of some insane rumors lately.

First, there was talk that Sony might be negotiating a deal to let Spidey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and let him joke around with the Avengers (every comic book movie fan's dream come true). And as well, there were rumors that Sony was planning an Aunt May spinoff film, that would show Peter Parker's aunt while she was much younger and in action-movie shape.

But right now, neither of those have been confirmed- and according to Fashion & Style, Sony confirmed via Comic Book Releases to say that the Aunt May Movie was an insane idea, "silly rumor," and had "no validity whatsoever." So we can scratch that one off, at least.

Otherwise, things are looking pretty dire for Spider-Man. Enstars is now reporting that the fate of the "Spider-Man" franchise may hinge not on "The Amazing Spider-Man 3," but on the two spin-off films that will be released before it: "The Sinister Six," and the film about female Spider-heroes that's yet to be detailed in any significant way. Fashion & Style claims it might be about Spider-Gwen, a version of Gwen Stacy with spider powers, and that may have some validity, now that rumors are spreading (via WeGotThisCovered) that Gwen Stacy might be revived for "The Amazing Spider-Man 3."

And if neither of those films can make it at the box office, Sony might be prepared to thrown in the towel forever. Which wouldn't be great for the company, but would probably please Spider-Man's many fans- they've long been disappointed with how the company rebooted the franchise, and a chance to give Marvel Studios the character is a chance to do the character right.

Either way, expect a ton of Spider-Man in our immediate future.
