‘Hart of Dixie’ Season 4 Premiere Recap, Spoilers: Leila Gerstein reveals that the season is all about love

It was heart-breaking for the "Hart of Dixie" fans to see their favorite couple to walk apart, but this time around Zoe (Rachel Bilson) and Wade (Wilson Bethel) come back strong as a couple for CW's show's fourth season premiere.

Executive producer Leila Gerstein chunks Zoe's big surprise as she tries to win Wade's heart for the second time around, Hollywood Reporter reported.

Previously, Gerstein already shared that the show is going "full-steam ahead" approach in order to set the romance ablaze. Zoe tried all the best methods she could think of. She desperately wants to have Wade back, and when everything else fails, she managed to pull off a strategy that got her intimate with him: seduction. It should have been romantic, but nope it was just purely physical and then Zoe found herself pregnant.

"It was certainly not in my [original] plan to write a pregnancy, but I think that the fact that Rachel was pregnant is the luckiest thing that happened," Gerstein tells THR. "It gave us a whole new way to tell this romantic comedy. It opened up this clear path for what the season was going to be [for Wade and Zoe]," Gerstein said.

"Once I made the decision to write in Rachel's pregnancy, it was clear that this was going to expedite Zoe and Wade being together," she says. "It was going to put their relationship on the fast track because [things] happen in life, and this was something that happened, and now they are going to have to figure it out. They don't have time for the back and forth anymore; they have to figure it out. I thought that was a very exciting way to tell that story," she continued.

What happened to Wade? He seems to have really changed and it can be a little challenging to figure out what he really wants. Gerstein noted that his heart was badly broken by her and he must decide whether he will still let her in.

"I actually feel Wade's metamorphosis happened in the middle of Season 2. Wade has reached emotionally and he has matured to the where he can be with Zoe. And Zoe has been the one holding them back. By the end of Season 3, Zoe finally realized Wade was her one true person. And the question we were left with by the end of Season 3 is has so much happened that Wade will be unable to forgive her. He has had his heart super-broken, which is a medical term, and so is he willing to down the rabbit hole that is Zoe Hart once again."

In an interview with The Wrap, Leila Gerstein answered the question regarding the theme of this season. "This will be a season for the fans. This is the year when we bring all the central love stories to some sort of celebratory conclusion. It is a year of love. It is a year of people figuring out who they are, what they want and acting on it. All the characters were barriers to their own happiness on Season 1. And by the time we get around to Episode 10 of Season 4, all the barriers are broken down and people can find their path to happiness."
