Oscar Pistorius gets no love on Christmas, South Africa judge allows appeal to Blade Runner culpable homicide acquittal

Oscar Pistorius will not be catching a break this holiday season. According to several South African news reports, Pistorius and other high-profile prisoners in the state prison will not be receiving special meals to celebrate the holidays, according to Department of Correctional Services Logan Maistry.

This was also seconded by area commissioner at Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria Zebilon Monama. He clarified that although meat is not served in jail everyday, prison officials try to change the menu up so they can offer it on Christmas Day.

Pistorius is currently serving time as a group B prisoner, TimesLive.co.za noted from the former athlete's sister Aimee in a tweet back in November. Although Pistorius was not declared guilty of murder, he was sentenced to culpable homicide, which warrants a five-year term. Pistorius allegedly shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a bathroom door in his home last year on Valentine's Day, EWN.co.za reported.

Maistry also told the site, "The mandate of the department is to insure safe and secure incarceration therefore on days like Christmas in a correctional centre it is like any other normal day."

Earlier in December, Pistorius is reportedly in danger on getting charged with murder, after presiding judge Thokozile Masipa has allowed a request by prosecutors to appeal it. On the other hand, she clarified that while she is permitting the appeal over the acquittal, the state cannot challenge the culpable homicide sentence.

The Guardian quoted her as saying, "I cannot say ... that the prospect of success at the Supreme Court of Appeal is remote ... I am also of the view ... this might have a practical effect. The application therefore in respect of count one is decided in favour of the applicant. I am not persuaded that there was any material misdirection or irregularity, or that on the facts of this matter the sentence imposed was shockingly inappropriate."
