Oscar Pistorius will be staying behind bars for 15 years after Judge Thokozile Matilde Masipa convicted him for culpable homicide. The Paralympian is set to begin his life sentencing on Monday, October 13.
The 27-year old sprinter, who is known as "The Blade Runner", was found guilty of killing -- whether intentional or not -- his former girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day of 2014 at Pretoria, South Africa.
There are allegations that Pistorius called his ex-girlfriend Jenna Edkins several minutes before Steenkamp was shot behind the bathroom door. According to a report from Australian News, the sprinter's brother -- Carl Pistorius -- allegedly deleted the call history and WhatsApp messages of Edkins and Pistorius as the trial progresses. Apparently, it could be another testimony that Edkins might knew what Pistorius, if he intentionally killed Steenkamp, was about to do on the early hours of February 14. However, the Pistorius family denied the allegations, for they do not know about what Carl allegedly did.
Their reaction to the news reads, "We are not sure of the allegations which are to be made or the source of such allegations, but we are not aware of any deletions having been affected by Oscar or effected on his instructions that could be relevant to this trial or could have impacted on this trial."
It is known that during the trial process, the news regarding Edkins' conversation with her ex-boyfriend wasn't brought up. Meanwhile, if it did, Masipa's decision is believed to be the same as it would not influence on the defense team or the prosecutors.
Meanwhile, Daily Mail quoted Adam Steenkamp, Reeva's brother, of his reactions after the trial. He described the process as a "grotesque pantomime", for he felt that Pistorius slipped himself away from the murder.
"In my heart I know he has got away with it. He has got away with murder," he said. Mr. Steenkamp proposed that Pistorius planned the murder and his actions were evidently intentional on the said night.
He believes that 15 years is not enough to fulfill the justice for his sister, Reeva Steenkamp.
Oscar Pistorius will begin his life sentencing on Monday for fifteen years.
