Is Niall Horan bidding goodbye to the world pop phenomenon that is One Direction? According to the tweets posted by Yahoo! Celebrity Uk and Sugarscape, the British lad thought so.
On December 28, the sites tweeted that blonde heartthrob was quitting the band, which sparked a worldwide Twitter frenzy. The Twitter hashtag #ReasonsNiallLeftOneDirection became a global topic quickly, Hollywood Life reported.
The speculation regarding the longevity of the group has been a long-term topic, with opinion coming from Simon Cowell to news outfits suggesting the band's eventual end. Cowell, who has been largely responsible for the group's success after signing them into his record label Syco Records, told news tabloid The Sun, "They can't carry on doing the amount of stuff they've been doing for long because they'll burn out - it's a high-class problem. But they don't complain about working hard."
Even Donny Osmond, who has been a heartthrob before in a pop group called The Osmonds, told WENN about the band's eventual breakup, "One Direction are huge and there is real talent there but they have a year, year and a half left. We all know it and I think they know it."
However, both Sugarscape and Yahoo! issued a retraction shortly after discovering that their Twitter accounts used to report Niall's departure from the band, claiming that they were hacked.
Sugarescape tweeted using the popular hashtag, "Just to confirm, Niall is NOT leaving One Direction. We were hacked, innit. #reasonsniallleftonedirection."
Yahoo chimed in and said, "Morning everyone. Just so you know, Niall Horan isn't in fact leaving 1D, our account was hacked last night. We repeat, Niall isn't leaving."
