The return of "Outlander" on Starz will have fans see the series in Jamie's eyes.
Cast members Caitriona Balfe (Claire Beauchamp Randall/Fraser), Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), and executive producer Ronald D. Moore shared to attendees of the Television Critics Association winter press tour this Friday, in Pasadena, California that the show will have changes, albeit subtle.
One significant change though will reportedly be that the narrator of the is Jamie, and no longer Claire, Christian Post reported.
Heughan told the press, "In the second part of the season, there is a lot more about Jamie. He's finding his place in the world. He has new responsibilities. He's got to deal with relationships he'd rather not deal with - his sister, his dead father. We start to see his stubborn side, his pride. He's less idealistic. We start to see the chinks in the armor. He's very vulnerable and he learns a lot."
TVLine said that fans of Claire's present-day husband, Frank, will not totally be out of the picture yet. Moore explained, "We're restarting the audience, so we wanted to have a lead-in for the viewers that would shift the point of view. This was a moment to pivot and include him in the perspective of the audience. The story does revisit Frank in the 21st century in Book Two, so in the second season you will [see him]."
When asked about the infamous flogging scene in the books, Balfe said that the scene with her co-star was handled as respectfully as possible. SheKnows.com quoted the actress, who added, "You have to look at it from the mind frame of 1743. [Back then] this was a very justified form of punishment that a husband and mete out."
Heughan added that Claire will not be the only one who will be injured. He said that his character will also encounter a lot of injuries.
Meanwhile, production for Season 2 has started in Scotland and not as Paris as expected. Moore said that the production staff has remedied the situation by creating several interior sets.
