Multi-company SM Entertainment ventures in yet another type of business, a theme park full of company's merchandise. One of the leaders in Korean entertainment Industry, SM recently opens its own 6-storey SMTOWN@coexartium or SUM in Samseong-dong, Seoul which attended by K- Pop artists.
SM TOWN's grand opening happened on January 13 and most its renowned SM artists such as Girls' Generation, EXO, and Super Junior didn't fail to attend. The Korea Times' report, thankful SM Entertainment chairman Lee Soo-man wants the facility as a venue to provide their various contents.
"I wanted to build an amusement park in the city, and that's why this facility is subtitled 'Theme Park in the City.' Our goal was to bring content together so it can be accessible at one venue, including content unique to SM," Lee said. "We hope to provide our visitors with an upgraded version of SM content."
Lee also shared in the event, where the teaser of School OZ also presented, his sentiment that as a leading company they take the responsibility presenting something new to the public.
A place for die-hard K-pop fans, the facility has studio, salon, theater, and shops where recommended and souvenir items of Korean celebrities are available. Its LIVErary Café is hangout place for diners who like to see celebrities' memorabilia.
Meantime SM Entertainment also faces a court battle in relation to nullification of contract versus their ex talents Luhan and Kris (Wu YiFan). On January 16, camp of two former members of EXO boy band appeared separately (10:20 a.m.and 11 a.m KST) at the Seoul Central District Court in Seochogo, Seoul for mediation, which according to allkpop's report didn't prosper for the settlement of the case.
"The court-referred mediation resulted in no settlement. We have set another mediation date. We can't reveal the specific details," said the representative of two K Pop singers.
