Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey's divorce just got a whole lot messier. Before, at least things were kept in the family- the former couple was battling it out viciously over money and custody of their two children, but now a former nanny for Cannon and Carey is suing the couple.
TMZ has the news- apparently the nanny, Simonette DeCosta, was a nanny for the couple while their children were still infants. She fed, bathed and clothed the kids, but when Carey thought they started to like DeCosta a little too much, the "All I Want for Christmas" singer screamed at the nanny. She was later fired.
More information on the lawsuit can be found at E! News.
According to their sources and legal documents, DeCosta was Cannon and Carey's nanny from October 2013 to January 2014. She spent a good deal of time with the family (even traveling with them on vacation to take care of the kids, and living in their house).
However, the couple allegedly treated DaCosta quite poorly. Her lawsuit claims she worked "Well over 100 hours per week," but didn't receive nearly enough pay for those kinds of hours. The couple neglected to pay DaCosta "premium overtime compensation for the hours worked in excess of forty hours," despite DaCosta's massive amount of weekly work hours.
E! also adds that DaCosta is looking to win "unpaid overtime wages, premium wages, liquidated damages, reasonable attorneys' fees, costs, pre-judgment interest and all other appropriate legal relief under the law" in the lawsuit.
But will this affect the couple's net worth? Specifically, Mariah Carey's? It seems likely. Some are speculating that with this lawsuit, another lawsuit from a former assistant (who's alleging many of the same complaints as DeCosta) and her divorce from Cannon will surely drain her dry. Naturally, because Carey is a music superstar, her net worth is considerably more than her ex-husband's and she's likely to pay out the nose for any child support or alimony payments. We'll see if Carey has anything left after these lawsuits have played out.
