It would be a TV program that would keep on tapping radiant faces and fresh talents to meet its series commitment with CBS. With an hour long show focused on Superman's female cousin, Supergirl, the show decided to cast Mehcad Brooks as James 'Jimmy' Olsen to join Melissa Benoist who would take the role of "Supergirl."
The Glee actress, Melissa Benoist, would be belting out a new tune on the "Supergirl." Benoist was reported to have stood out among the other actress who also took the screen test for the heroine, which was previously played by Laura Vandervoot in "Smallville."
The show would begin with Superman's female cousin, Kara Zor-El, who would now be 24-years old and underwhelmed. Her foster parents, the Danvers, taught her to be cautious about her inborn abilities. In fact, besides the Danvers, only Superman knew about her real identity.
However, an unexpected incident led her to use her powers and ultimately move forward with her new purpose filled life and new identity where she would use the alias Supergirl.
Kara, like her cousin Clark, would definitely have an office crush. This would be where James 'Jimmy' Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) comes in; Jimmy would be a photographer at CatCo. based on the CBS story line. Jimmy had just recently moved to National City and with Supergirl coming out to save the day, everyday, they start developing a certain closeness. Brooks starred in "Necessary Roughness," before he took the role of the 34 year-old suave photographer for CatCo.
The last time Supergirl was featured as the prime protagonist on screen was on the British 1984 movie "Supergirl" who featured Helen Slater as the heroine who lost a powerful orb and went to Earth to search for it only to find herself battling a witch.
The super heroine, however, had fared far better on print with it being part of the top 100 popular comics of 2011.
