Denzel Washington Would Make an Amazing Addition to "Empire"- But Could It Really Happen?

By

Four episodes in and "Empire" is a monumental success- the show's a ratings dynamo, pulling in the strongest debut numbers Fox has had in years, and it's making a killing in DVR and On Demand numbers as well.

So naturally, Fox and creator Lee Daniels would want to build the show up even bigger, right? Well, Daniels already has a plan in mind- courting Denzel Washington to appear on the show.

The show's got no shortage of guest stars (in no particular order: Snoop Dogg, Lenny Kravitz, Macy Gray, Mary J. Blige, Cuba Gooding Jr., Courtney Love, Mariah Carey and Naomi Campbell). But landing Washington would be a huge win for the series.

And apparently, Washington might be up for it. When speaking about a possible guest appearance from Washington, Daniels said the following: "Denzel hasn't done television in 30 years. But he saw the pilot and said, 'I've got to be a part of this.' "

It's true- Washington hasn't been on TV in 30 years (unless you count his narration in the 2013 PBS documentary "The March"). His last (also, first) TV role was on the drama "St. Elsewhere." But that's the latest trend right now- Hollywood stars coming to television to pursue roles that allow for more creative freedom (John Travolta's starring in "American Crime Story," and Anthony Hopkins in "Westworld," just to name two). It's not so unlikely that Washington might join the trend, is it?

Daniels is really pushing for this- on his Instagram he posted a photo of him and Washington (seen above) during a dinner conversation where Daniels was trying to convince the "Equalizer" star to join "Empire." Daniels captioned the photo with: "Trying to talk this one into doing a guest star on #empire #nextweekdinneronme."

And the fans love the idea, as a recent outpour of comments on that Instagram post shows.
