HTC has released the Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware for HTC One series but not all users have access to it yet. Those who own an HTC One M8 or an HTC One M7 handset under a carrier may need to wait a little more. The company did promise that it will be providing the software 90 days after Google provided the Android 5.0 source code.
Considering the time frame, the firmware should be arriving around February 1. However, according to HTC US product manager Mo Versi's announcement, the Android Lollipop carrier version may be pushed back a little more. The company further explained that the delay is due to a number of issues. As noted by HTC:
"We've been working hard in the labs with Google and our carrier partners ever since the code release and are making great progress so far, but if you've been following the progress of this rollout you will know that Google has had to address several issues with this release. We've been diligently working to fix some of them on our end and incorporating Google's fixes as quickly as possible."
HTC has always seen to it that its products remain updated as soon as possible according to CNET. This gets a plus point from the consumers. For instance, the company's 90-day promise has been well received. Rolling out the latest Android version also helps users manage their apps better. However, with the delay of the Lollipop carrier version, there may be some HTC users left disgruntled.
As with other Android and HTC releases, users may have to wait or confirm with their specific network providers about the schedule of the rollout. Some carriers may work faster on the update offering early access while others later. So far HTC has released the Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware to Google Play, Unlocked, and Developer Editions of the HTC One (M8). The carrier version should be up soon.
