Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Note 3 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Guide: New Details and Expectations

By

Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 3 unit owners may be in line for the Android 5.0 and Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update as the company pushes release to Galaxy S5. Usually, when companies update their latest devices with newest Android versions, the older ones will surely be in line. Several reports also seem to agree. According to Android Geeks, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop release in several countries should be a clear indication of the company's ongoing efforts to update its smartphone line. It should only be a matter of time before the build hits older units.

Samsung has not released any new confirmation but the company did promise last December that the Galaxy S4 will be in line for the update. This should also pass on to Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S3. The test builds leaked online has also shown Samsung running the Android Lollipop versions on its devices.

For instance, Android Authority reports about a new test build showing the Samsung Galaxy S4 to be running on the Android 5.0.1 version. In the test build, functions such as WiFi, Bluetooth, network data and NFC appear to be working just fine. This means that it could be the official build as most custom ROMs often have problems with any of the mentioned features. The file can be flashed or installed so far on the following Samsung Galaxy S4 units: GT-I9500, GT-I9502, GT-I9508, and the GT-I9508v. Those users with Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 model may have to wait as it does not seem compatible with the firmware. The model packs on a Snapdragon 600.

There has been considerable attention on the update schedules for devices like the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy S4 because they have been popular throughout their time. According to Android Origin, Samsung appears to be working on the updates in order to avoid as many disgruntled customers as possible.
