Samsung appears to be preparing more of its Galaxy Note devices for the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update. According to the latest information, the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge will soon be receiving the firmware skipping the original version. Samsung has not provided the exact release of the date yet but according to Load the Game, the best guess will be around February. Whereas Samsung confirmed the release of the Android Lollipop update to Galaxy Note 3, it may come later as newer devices like Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge often receive software updates faster.
Samsung has been known for rolling out updates slower compared to other manufacturers. However, this makes sense considering the company needs to tweak the TouchWiz every time an update gets rolled out. The interface requires considerable work before it can be aligned to new Android systems.
Another reason for the later release is that the Korean tech giant waited until majority of Lollipop bugs have been addressed. I Know Today notes that the Android Lollipop rollout to Nexus and Motorola devices has been plagued with issues possibly forcing Samsung to delay the its Lollipop release until things have stabilized.
Skipping to the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update is also a good idea since it offers bug fixes for the original version. Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge users should expect a number of stylus-oriented features to be easier to use and more aesthetically appealing. Whereas there are no signs that the TouchWiz may be as redesigned as other interfaces under the Lollipop firmware, there are expectations of more UI changes once the Samsung Galaxy S6 is revealed.
As with other Android updates, everything will be carried out in stages. Some users may have early or delayed access depending on the network provider.
