Nathan Fillion to appear on "The Big Bang Theory," Raj and Leonard Will Go Fanboy-Crazy and Pester the "Firefly" Actor

By

"The Big Bang Theory" is a miniature Nirvana for nerds. What other shows routinely feature comic books, Dungeons & Dragons and a general sense of social awkwardness (well, plenty of shows do, but most of them require a cable subscription). And now "The Big Bang Theory" has just cast a guest star that'll send its geek credibility through the roof.

That guest star? Nathan Fillion.

Fillion's well-known and well-loved for his role as Mal Reynolds in "Firefly," as well as the titular Richard Castle in "Castle" and Captain Hammer in the cult hit webseries "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog." And now, on "Big Bang Theory," he'll be playing himself.

The news first comes from Entertainment Weekly, who reports that in an upcoming episode of "Big Bang Theory," Ray and Leonard will be eating out in a restaurant when they notice a man who's the spitting image of Fillion. They debate amongst themselves whether it's really him (it is, of course- that's the role being played by Fillion himself) and finally muster up the courage to ask Fillion for a picture, as seen in the image above.

As well, we know that the episode will air on February 19th. What we don't know is if the cameo lasts longer than that single scene. Will Fillion get any dialogue? Will he show up later in another part of the episode, as a second surprise appearance? For Fillion fans, this may not be the lengthy guest spot they were hoping for.

TV.com points out that Fillion is the latest in a long line of nerd-cred celebrity guests on "The Big Bang Theory." Previous honorees include George Takei, Wil Wheaton, Carrie Fisher and Leonard Nemoy, among others. And in two weeks' time, Nathan Fillion can add himself to that prestigious list. Unless he's as exasperated about appearing on "The Big Bang Theory' as he appears in that photo.
