‘Star Trek 3’ Rumors: Bryan Cranston to Play Villain, Three New Characters

By

The third installment of the sci-fi movie "Star Trek" is scheduled for release on 2016 and fans already know that Simon Pegg is co-writing the new script for director Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6.

As fans wait for updates on the movie's production, rumors surface recently that actor Bryan Cranston is being eyed for a villain role in the upcoming movie and that the sequel is introducing three new female characters.

According to Film Divider, the movie will feature a male villain and the production wants Bryan Cranston, or at least someone like him, to take the role. The site reports that the "Breaking Bad" star was in talks with the studio. However, nothing has been reported or confirmed about it yet.

Moreover, according to the site, the movie is also featuring three new female characters, including the President of the United Federation of Planets, a new captain of Starfleet and the ex-wife of Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy. The latter could be Pamela Branch, Jocelyn Treadway, or perhaps a new character, as suggested by the website.

Screenrant noted that should the report is true, this could be an answer to criticisms thrown at the previous film, "Star Trek Into the Darkness," for its male-dominate cast.

On other news, the start date of "Star Trek 3" is April 15th, 2015, according to On Location Vacations. Previous reports claim that aside from the Vancouver Film Studios, part of the movie will be shot in Seoul, South Korea.

Meanwhile, Cinema Blend previously reported that the third instalment will be set years following the events featured in the second film. It will reportedly tell the story of Captain Kirk and his team at the Enterprise crew as they embark on their famous five-year voyage.

"Star Trek 3" will focus on the characters' journey as they have a deep space exploration. This takes it closer to the theme of the original TV series, making fans look forward to its release on 2016.
