America’s Next Top Model Alum with Vitiligo Wins two major Modelling Campaigns Despite Skin Condition

By

She first made waves when she was chosen as one of the finalists in America's Next Top Model (ANTM) Cycle 21 despite having vitiligo-a rare skin disease which causes a loss of skin pigment. Now, Chantelle "Winnie Harlow" Brown-Young is making headlines in the fashion industry once more as she fronts gigs from two industry bigwigs Diesel and Desigual.

Diesel recently launched its Spring Summer 2015 campaign which features the 20-year-old Canadian stunner together with a diverse group of models. Diesel's artistic director Nicola Formichetti shared to E! News that the aim of the campaign was to celebrate uncommon beauties, something which the brand has advocated before in the past. Back in 2014, the brand also featured fashion blogger Jillian Mercado who has muscular dystrophy.

Meanwhile, Winnie was also chosen by Desigual as brand ambassador for its "say something nice" campaign. In a press release, the brand claimed that, "She's a model who breaks the established conventions and canons...She is pure inspiration, a whirlwind of positive energy, an example of strength and achievement, who demonstrates the we are all special and can achieve what we set out to do."

The stunning model was first diagnosed of her disease after she developed a white patch across her stomach when she was four. The model shared in her short documentary "Vitiligo: A Skin Condition Not a Life Changer" that she was horribly bullied and called names like "zebra" and "cow" during her childhood. The bullying drove her to quit high school (via S2S Magazine).

Winnie was personally handpicked by Tyra Banks to join the ranks of ANTM Cycle 21. Though she didn't nab the title win, it helped land her gigs walking for London's Fashion Week and guest starring in a campaign for SHOWStudio (via The Gloss.com). It is her second time now to work with Diesel.
