The Marvel Cinematic Universe is huge. It's perhaps the hugest deal in movies right now (seriously- huge). But how long can Marvel Studios' success last? Sure, they've never had an outright flop (although some films, like "The Incredible Hulk" may have come close), and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" is more or less guaranteed to bring in at least a billion dollars this year.
But could the Marvel Universe eventually fail? Some seem to think so- WhatCulture speculates that the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be attempting to do too much, do soon. They say that because the studio is pushing so hard in both TV and movies (this year, we'll have three, maybe four Marvel TV shows- "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," "Daredevil," "Agent Carter" and maybe "AKA Jessica Jones," and by 2017 Marvel will be putting out three major movies a year).
As well, Dan Buckley, a publisher for Marvel Comics, speaks about how his own industry interacts with the Marvel Universe- and according to him, it seems like the two mediums will be working in sequence for a long time.
"So to say that both mediums have influence on each other, yes. They will creatively bleed into each other; people are going to steal good ideas from each other. That's always going to happen."
"We've figured out what those characters meant, how they interacted, how they fit in the Cinematic Universe and how they fit in Marvel as a whole, because we never told the story about Melinda May or Skye or any of these characters."
Still, there's one big factor that could keep the Marvel Universe in business for a long, long time- the addition of Spider-Man. While it's long been rumored that Sony might be negotiating with Marvel to introduce Peter Parker into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, nothing's been confirmed for sure. If he was, that'd guarantee it- Marvel would have a near monopoly on superhero franchises and could coast for decades. Without Spider-Man? Well, we'll just have to wait and see.
