Somewhere, Dan Bilzerian is breathing a giant sigh of relief. The professional poker player and massive Internet celebrity (Bilzerians ridiculous- and ridiculously manly- antics have gained him a huge following) was recently at risk of a serious stint of prison time. Luckily, he's managed to skirt out of going to jail.
Here's what nearly sent the Internet celeb to the slammer- back in November, Bilzerian and friend Jeremy David Guymon created a homemade bomb and used it to blow up a portion of a tractor-trailer. The two planet the nearly 90 lb explosive in the tractor, then shot it from long distance with a rifle, causing massive damage to the vehicle and the surrounding area.
But the explosion itself wasn't what threatened that jail time- it was the mere possession of bomb-making components that could potentially slap Bilzerian with a $5,000 fine and six years in jail. Apparently, those bomb components, when mixed in a certain way, can actually create TNT- which would be seen as a major threat by the government.
Along with Bilzerian, the same goes for Guymon- both are going to survive, jail-free.
Here's how they got out of the conviction- because Bilzerian is such a mega-hugely popular Internet celeb, his punishment will be community service, of sorts. Bilzerian and Guymon will record a PSA for the Federal Bureau of Land Management, instructing viewers not to do commit the same crimes they did.
However, they're not getting away entirely scott-free. Because the initial tractor explosion sparked a wildfire, Bilzerian and his buddy have already pleaded guilty to misdemeanor failure to extinguish a fire. And with that, they've had to pay $20,000 total. But for Bilzerian, that's not that bad- thanks to his professional poker background, he's got billions to spare. So while Bilzerian might lose a little public respect after this, he's certainly got money left over.
Meanwhile, he enjoys himself swimming with, you guessed it, topless women seen on his twitter account.
