Speculations rose that Sony would launch Xperia Z4 at the MWC after it postponed the "supposed" launching of the device at the Consumer Electronics Show 2015. CES is Sony's traditional event for launching of new Xperia devices, except for Z4, apparently.
The launching date, however, remained a speculation as Sony stayed silent about the device's release date. Unlike with past product launchings at the MWC, Sony did not disseminate any press release about the speculated launching, neither had it distribute cryptic invitations to the press to provide the media people a hint of the release date like what Samsung did when it launched Galaxy S6 at the MWC.
The lack of news from Sony though did not deter curious supporters from seeking information about the anticipated device elsewhere. One report that sparked the interest about the Xperia Z4 was that published on Weibo, a popular social network in China.
The report showed a photo of Z4 which comes with the defining features of Z3, only this time it has smaller bezels and a 5.5" display. Other changes made based on the photo are the redesigned front, as well as the exchanged of positions of its ambient light sensor and its camera.
As for specs, Sony is predicted to go for the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset and couple it with a 2.8 GHz octa-core CPU. For storage capacity, indications point that the company will opt for 4GB.
Other than that, reviewers expect that Sony will retain Z3's defining features such as the traditional Xperia language, water resistance, and the 2-day battery life for smartphones.
While the launching of Xperia Z4 remains a blur, what is certain for now is that it has been certified in Japan, its home country, in three distinct versions: NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and SoftBank. Each supports the new generation in voice technology especially LTE and VoLTE. It also supports Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac.
