Chris Pratt, Jennifer Lawrence to Star in "Passengers," From "Imitation Game" Director: What Do We Know So Far?

By

The film "Passengers" has quietly been trying to get made for years now. The film is a science fiction romance set entirely in space- the protagonist is a man who in hypersleep on a spaceflight to a distant planet colony, who's awakened by accident. And being the only guy on a very large, very empty ship, he gets a little lonely, and decides to wake up another passenger. Cue a strange science fiction love story.

Now, "Passengers" might have locked down two very, very promising leads- Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. Pratt, who stars in "Jurassic World" this year, along with last year's mega-successful "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "The LEGO Movie" is one of the biggest up-and-coming actors right now, and Lawrence, thanks to "The Hunger Games," is just as popular. If these two were to be cast in "Passengers," it'd be a huge step towards the film finally getting off the ground (and making a lot of money, most likely).

Right now, "Passengers" already has a screenplay from Jon Spaihts and a director in Morten Tyldum, who also directed last year's "The Imitation Game."

There's a long and complex history behind "Passengers." The screenplay first made waves and received critical acclaim all the way back in 2007, and since then it's been in development by Focus Features, and then the Weinstein company. Multiple actors have been rumored for both roles- Rachel McAdams and Reese Witherspoon were previously up for the part Jennifer Lawrence now lays claim to, while Chris Pratt's role was once held by Keanu Reeves.

Spaihts has previously written some hugely popular films- he was credited with an early screenplay to "Prometheus," and he's also writing the upcoming Marvel Studios film "Doctor Strange." WIth all the talent onboard "Passengers," it's bound to be a pretty huge hit... if it finally gets made.
