NYKO Technologies, the no. 1 manufacturer of video game accessories, took the stage at Consumers Electronics Show 2015 to unveil a range of products for retail release this year including the Nyko PS4 data bank and other cooling solutions for the next gen consoles.
"This year's product assortment looks to improve some of the everyday use cases that may go overlooked, but are just as important," said Chris Arbogast, Marketing director at Nyko.
"Our goal is to expand what is possible with video game hardware. This time, we chose different aspects of the consoles to tackle beyond charging and cooling, like data storage and communication with our Data Bank and Type Pad."
The Nyko PS4 Data Bank is a hard drive dock taking the place of the top of the console and the 2.5" hard drive so as to equip compatibility with 3.5" hard drives as internal storage. The solution removes the need for an external hard drive that cannot support game installs or save data as of yet.
This also provides a larger storage, higher running speeds and affordable prices with 3 .5" hard drives. The design of the replacement dock lid smoothly complements the minimalist design of the PS4. Once a 3.5" drive is slid into the Data Bank, a built-in LED strip lights up every time hard drive is used.
While the PlayStation 4 features a larger hard drive than its predecessor, the PS3, the enhanced graphical fidelity of new games for the console means that 500GB of standard storage space still fills up fast.
As a solution to this problem, accessories expert Nyko Technologies created the Data Bank for PS4.
The Nyko PS4 Data Bank represents Nyko's commitment to expand the basic functionalities and capabilities of video game hardware with its accessories. It is anticipated to begin shipping in the first half of 2015.
IGN wrote, "The Data Bank also looks good. It fits the design scheme of the PS4 and only has one small cable running from the back. It's not exactly big enough to trip over, and should hide behind your system easily."
Nyko also told IGN that it is seeing a $30-$40 price bracket for the Nyko PS4 data bank and that compatible hard drives will be sold individually.
