RuneScape Team announced that they will be kicking-off their 24-hour live stream and Double XP Weekend for their GameBlast 2015 this February 20 to 22 at 12 PM GMT for a good charity cause.
Amid their overwhelming success that the team got from the last year's GameBlast which had raised as much as £48,000, this year they will be featuring their efforts behind the scenes to come up with such brilliant idea to help those people with disability to enjoy the games the same way like the others do. This event includes playing RuneScape and Ace of Spades alongside interviews with the RuneScape development team.
Mark Saville from the SpecialEffect team said, "SpecialEffect are a charity that help people with physical disabilities to enjoy the kind of fun and the benefits of gaming that we all get from it," he added about developing to match special needs, "We match, we modify, we create equipment that will let them play to the very best of their abilities."
He mentioned that they don't make and sell anything to charge for their work since his team believed that that thing is the right thing that should be done. They have developed equipments that suits the special needs of people to allow them to enjoy playing the games.
Tom Clark, one of the featured gamers with SMA or Spinal Muscular Atrophy, shared his enjoyment from the gameplay though he can't move a lot [as part of the outcomes of the said disease]. He said that he had wanted to play with his FIFA mates in the game but he can't possibly do because of his condition. However, when the SpecialEffect team got into his house two years ago, his life changed. He cited, "Because of what they've done, I'm now able to not play it, but I can compete with them on a level playing field."
Jagex Games Studio, the game developer and publisher, as he described the team, were incredibly brilliant based from the huge success of their first GameBlast last year. "Jagex were brilliant. They're absolutely fantastic," he said.
However, he also acknowledged that the success will not be possible without the big help of the RuneScape community as well as the team working behind through their donations as well as their efforts and time invested for the last year's event.
In addition, Dr. Mick Donegan, the founder and director of SpecialEffect, said, "We were simply stunned by the amazing generosity of the Jagex community during the last year's GameBlast ... Having such a major force in the gaming industry backing our work helping people with disabilities is a great boost."
Meanwhile, with this upcoming live streaming event this month, the team revealed that they got so many groups supporting them like Matt and Darren from the RuneFest as well as the Multiplay to help them with the production of the stream. PC GamesN cited that Multiplay and Jagex partnered for this year's GameBlast to raise money more than £100,000 for the development of the technology needed for those disabled gamers.
Mod Jane, Community Events Director of RuneScape added that the Fraggers will be joining with their GamerBus and CoolerMaster to giveaway their keyboards, mice, and headsets to all gamers. RuneScape will also be giving away some giveaways during the event like the godswords, signed T-shirts, and signed party hats.
With this year's charity cause, she advised gamers to help them raise more money through jumping into game and donate items, gold, and bonds straight into the Well of Goodwill or gamers may opt to go to Solomon's store and "buy a really awesome outfit that's been created especially for GameBlast." She added third option where gamers can directly go to JustGiving.com/Jagex and donate. Through these options, they will be converting them into cash for the benefit of the Special Effect team's charity.
"This year we want to raise even more money, but we can't do that without your help," she quoted.
