Casting a lead actor for "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," the upcoming series of Harry Potter spin-off films, is a pretty huge deal. Warner Bros isn't just finding their lead actor. They're finding a character who will have to stand up to Harry Potter in the audience's minds, and be a suitable replacement for him when "Fantastic Beasts" hits theaters, Potter-free. And while some sources indicate that "Fantastic Beasts" may already have started looking for its Newt Scamander (the lead character in the upcoming trilogy), it turns out those sources aren't quite right.
Originally, it was reported by Acting-Auditions.org that Warner Bros. had put out a casting call for "Fantastic Beasts." According to the casting call, "Shooting will take place in New York and London beginning in August, 2015. All lead and supporting roles are up for grabs." The casting call also had a short synopsis of the film, which reads as follows:
"Set initially in New York about seven decades before the start of the Harry Potter story, the films will follow "magizoologist" Newt Scamander as an extension of the wizarding world - rather than being prequels or sequels."
But according to SnitchSeeker, this casting call's a hoax. They don't have a ton of information to go on, but what they do have seems pretty clear- apparently, Warner Bros. contacted SnitchSeeker directly to tell them the casting call wasn't real. Sorry if the promise of a "Fantastic Beasts" audition was getting your hopes up.
And this does seem a little premature to go with casting already, considering that an earlier piece in SnitchSeeker reveals the film's still not done with its script. In speaking to two Harry Potter graphic designers, the designers revealed the state of the film's production so far.
"We went in to see what will happen, because they're still developing the script. We're all just waiting to see what she comes up with."
That means we'll be waiting quite a while before we hear any casting news for "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." But don't worry- once the casting news comes out (and it's definitely not a hoax), Potter fans will finally have a shot of appearing in the Harry Potter universe. They'll just have to audition their way through hordes of other Potter fans to get there.
