The "Warcraft" film has been hotly anticipated for a while now, from both non-gamers and gamers alike (but especially from those who love the "Warcraft" game series). But we've seen almost nothing from the film so far. A few pieces of concept art here and there, and descriptions of previous Comic-Con trailers... but not the trailers themselves.
At least we have director Duncan Jones. Jones took to Twitter recently to provide updates for "Warcraft" and to get some feedback on what the population thinks of his massive upcoming game-to-film adaptation. So far? Things sound pretty good.
Jones opened his Twitter dialogue with a call for people to join him.
"So lets chat. Ive got a movie coming out next year; WARCRAFT. Its based on a computer game of the same name but its pretty unique..."
And one of the things Jones first mentioned was how to balance the film for multiple audiences, and make a "Warcraft" that "Warcraft" fans will eat up- and so will people who've never even heard of the game.
"We're trying to work out how best to let people who don't play the game know that this is a film they'll genuinely want to see."
As well, Duncan gave us some new details on the film's effects- that there's going to be a ton of them, on the scale of some of the most CGI-heavy epic films of the past ten years.
"I would say that we fit somewhere between Planet of the Apes, Fellowship of the Ring and Avatar."
Finally, he admitted his own doubts about the film as a game-to-film adaptation. Which, as most people know, are almost always terrible films (seriously, the highest Rotten Tomatoes score a video game movie's ever gotten was a 44%, with "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within").
"You know as well as I do, game to film adaptions have a checkered past, but Im proud of this beast. It's unique. Its something special."
What do you think? Is Jones getting you hyped up for a "Warcraft" film? Think the franchise is in good hands? Personally, we'd just like to see a trailer already. "Warcraft" will open on March 11, 2016, and star Travis Fimmel, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper and Toby Kebbell.
