This is it. The end of Peter Jackson's time in Middle-Earth, forever. Once "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" is released on DVD, that's the last release of anything "Lord of the Rings"-related for a very, very long time.
Here goes: "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" will release on digital HD, DVD and Blu-Ray on March 24, 2015. The news comes via TheOneRing.net, which reveals the exact names and details for the different formats. And here they are:
You can buy "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" as a Blu-Ray 3D Combo Pack, which comes with a 3D version of the theatrical cut, along with an HD version and a standard version. This costs $44.95.
Next is the Blu-Ray Combo Pack, which has the theatrical cut in HD on a Blu-ray disc. This one's also $44.95.
Finally, there's the two-disc DVD, which includes nothing but the standard definition version of the theatrical cut. That one runs $28.98.
As well, Comingsoon.net reveals just what special features will come with each 2-disc version of the film. Here's the list of speciail feature in total:
- Recruiting the Five Armies
- Completing Middle-earth
- The Last Goodbye: Behind the Scenes
- The Last Goodbye Music Video
- New Zealand: Home of Middle-earth, Part 3
But if you're keen on waiting until you can buy all three "Hobbit" films in a single purchase, there's an option like that on the way. According to Flickering Myth, there's a "The Hobbit: The Motion PIcture Trilogy" box set that's available for pre-order already, and will include the theatrical cuts of all three films in a single collection.
Enjoy this feeling while it lasts, people. Because once "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" hits store shelves, that's the last moment of Peter Jackson, Middle Earth and hobbits galore.
