There will be no more social media for Insurgent star Theo James from now on. Shailene Woodley’s on-screen love in the Divergent series reportedly swore-off Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and all social media for that matter, because he wants to avoid an intermingling of his professional and personal lives.
James, who hails from Oxford, England, expressed apprehension that his life may begin to de-compartmentalize should he begin to post pictures of real-life girlfriend Ruth Kearney in social media, a report in Classiclite revealed. It was not clear in the report, however, if the decision to shy away from social networking was completely his idea, or if Kearny had some say on the matter.
The 27-year old James was also quoted in a recent Flaunt magazine interview as saying that he has not nor will he ever engage in social media because “it’s not for him.” The English actor explained that he was aware that other artists have benefitted from enhanced publicity as a result of their stronger on-line presence. However, the Golden Boy star evidently feels that, in this case, the cons far outweigh the pros.
James, who also starred opposite Kate Beckinsale in 2012’s Underworld: The Awakening, was quite consistent on his demand for a relatively normal private life. In the same magazine interview, he even said that he tries to avoid celebrity parties. James also admitted that he deliberately keeps certain elements of his private life from the scrutinizing eyes of the public. That apparently includes his romantic relationship.
Rumors ran high recently that James and Woodley’s unmistakable on-screen chemistry in Divergent, and then again in Insurgent, may develop into something off-screen. The analysis of body language expert Judi James, which suggested a genuine closeness between the two, only served to fuel the flames. It is clear from his interviews, however, that the actor has done nothing to encourage all the circulating gossip.
