This season is definitely not the last for the "Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver. There had been rumors that Oliver will no longer continue being the host of the said show but is said to return to Comedy Central. However, it was now confirmed that the talented host will renew his contract with HBO for two more seasons. This means we will be seeing Oliver on Season 3, (2016) and Season 4, (2017). Each season will be comprised of 35 episodes. The "Last Week Tonight's" first second season airing happened last February 8.
One of the accomplishments of the said show was during the WGA awards where it contended with the bigger shows namely The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, Real Time with Bill Maher, and Saturday Night Live, one of the longest shows in the industry.
Deadline reports HBO head of programming Michael Lombardo to be proud of having John Oliver as part of the HBO family. "His unique ability to deliver socially significant commentary week after week, along with his innate comedic brilliance, puts John in a class by himself." Lombardo adds.
John Oliver, the 37 year old writer-comedian, had worked as an occasional guest host on Comedy Central's The Daily Show before landing his own hosting program after seven years. He was also considered as a replacement for Jon Stewart from the same show. He is also a satirical podcast host in "The Bugle" and has a recurring character role in the show, "Community". With all his experiences as a comedian and the warm reception of the audience with his remarks, John Oliver is certainly one persona that HBO might consider as an asset.
The show, The Last Week Tonight is produced by Avalon Television; executive producers, John Oliver, Tim Carvell, Jon Thoday, James Taylor; co-executive producer, Liz Stanton; producer, Diane Fitzgerald; and director, Jim Hoskinson.
