Director Zach Snyder’s recent Tweet showing a Trident-toting Jason Momoa as Aquaman along with the words “Unite the Seven” in big, bold letters, seem to have fueled a lot of speculation. Does this refer to a subplot wherein the King of Atlantis will be called upon to unite the seven seas? Perhaps this is confirmation of a seventh superhero, let’s say Green Lantern, in the much-anticipated 'Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice' movie?
The count is six superheroes thus far, including the titular heroes Batman and Superman. Other members of the budding Justice League who will definitely be making their cinema debut in the picture are Wonder Woman, Flash, Cybrog and of course, Aquaman. Sean Erickson writes in Movie Pilot that the seventh hero can be no one else but Green Lantern, because of he has always been a pillar member of the Justice League.
Now, if Snyder and Warner Bros. decide to go with Green Lantern, easily the most logical choice, which one will it be? Will it be the Hal Jordan Green Lantern or the John Stewart Green Lantern, Erickson seemed to ask? Both Green Lanterns have their merits and presumably, their own fan base. However, somewhat firmer foundations have been laid for the Jordan character as a result of Ryan Reynold’s lackluster 2011 film.
It is just as likely, however, that the Momoa poster is referring to uniting the seven seas, which is really the more obvious interpretation, when one comes to think of it! The 35-year old Hawaiian-American actor is playing Aquaman—King of Atlantis, after all. If this is indeed the case, then Aquaman’s supposedly limited appearance in 'Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice' belies his true importance in the bigger picture. Bad Ass Digest reported that Aquaman, like the Flash, only have cameo appearances in this particular movie.
Howsoever people choose to interpret the phrase “Unite the Seven” it would still indicate just how invested the producers are in furthering the Justice League franchise as well as solo movies for its individual members. The Aquaman movie is expected to hit big screens in 2018.
