iTunes Update Troubleshooting Errors for Windows Users, Bug Fixes 2015

By

Encountering errors after installing iTunes for Windows is often resolved by removing and reinstalling iTunes and other related software components.

To do this, go to Control Panel and uninstall the following in this order. Then restart computer.

1. iTunes

2. QuickTime

3. Apple Software Update

4. Apple Mobile Device Support

5. Bonjour

6. Apple Application Support, either iTunes 9 or later (If iTunes install the two versions of Apple Application Support, uninstall both versions.)

Note that it's very important to uninstall these components according to order. Also, uninstalling only some of these components may not help solve the problem or, worst, could have unintended effects.

Additional Things to Do

Close any running programs before uninstalling iTunes and any of the components. Disconnect also iPod or iOS device and close Microsoft Outlook.

Do not restart the computer after uninstalling iTunes even if a prompt message appears on the screen. Restart when iTunes and all related components are completely uninstalled.

Check in Drive C whether the following files and folders have been removed. If one of them is left, make sure to remove them. Even if this rarely happens, checking the registry for any left iTunes components before restarting and reinstalling iTunes helps save time.

  • C:Program FilesBonjour
  • C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device Support
  • C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleApple Application Support
  • C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleCoreFP
  • C:Program FilesiTunes
  • C:Program FilesiPod

Taking the following additional steps is necessary if this message prompts on the screen: "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program."

1. Close iTunes and the iPod Updater utility if they are open.

2. Press and hold Control-Alt-Delete.

3. Select Start Task Manager.

4. Click the Processes tab.

5. Locate the iPodService.exe in the list.

6. Click iPodService.exe and choose End Process.

7. Quit the Task Manager.

An iTunes user also suggested deleting QTMovieWin.dll from Drive C as an alternative step to the troubleshooting measures mentioned above to fix the same problem.

To do this delete C:Programme Files (x86)iTunes and delete QTMovieWin.dll and Itunes will open without trouble.
