Fans that are dying to hear the musical scoring of the new Batman vs Superman film will just have to wait a little longer. A collaborate undertaking of two top Hollywood composers, it seems that the sounds of Dawn of Justice is simply not ready yet.
The musical endeavor that would set the mood for DC Comics’ latest superhero flick was off to a rather complicated start to begin with. Director Zack Snyder initially hired German composer Hans Zimmer to single-handedly take charge of the entire project. Zimmer’s scoring of the Man of Steel, which Snyder also directed, was a rousing success, after all.
However, for reasons that are now unimportant, Zimmer felt that he could not give equal justice to the film’s two primary protagonists. So, with Snyder’s blessing, he brought in another accomplished composer to divide his duties—Junkie XL. As it happened, Zimmer would do the scoring for Superman while Junkie XL would take care of the Batman part of the job, Screen Rant reported.
It seemed like a great idea when the plan was hatched a few months ago—two top composers for two iconic superheroes. Batman and Superman, with the exception of their shared obsession to fight evil, are after all, very different characters who require their distinct brand of musical support. It is well known that the musical scoring carries the film every bit as much as the plot itself!
Still, it does not seem unfair to wonder if having two great composers, each with their own great ideas, are somewhat slowing down the overall creative process? After completing separate scoring for Batman and Superman, Zimmer and Junkie XL are still left with the giant task of interlocking the sounds to support one truly super movie!
Collider lets us in on three musical collaborations between Zimmer and Junkie XL, which will give audiences a sense of what their combined efforts can potentially yield. The same source reported that these were heard in the deluxe edition of the Man of Steel.
