Apple iPad Pro a Hybrid Tablet Like the Surface Pro? Rumored Product Borrows S-Pen Idea from Samsung

By

Apple iPad Pro, or iPad Plus, may be released in April with rumors saying it could be a hybrid tablet like the Surface Pro. Talks about the iPad Pro are strengthened by the fact that iPad air 2 and iPad mini 3 prices keep dropping.

The iPad Pro is expected to drop in this year's second quarter, possibly alongside the iPad mini 4. According to IB Times, the upcoming tablet, which has the same "ultra thin and light" design as the iPad Air 2, can be unveiled in April. Sporting the rumored A9 chip, the 7mm-thin tablet is expected to weigh 700g and to have a 2K screen resolution.

Apple allegedly intends to work on "productivity more than entertainment factor with the big-screen iPad," the article continues. A rumored detachable keyword to come with the tablet puts it in competition with the Microsoft Surface Pro. Moreover, an optional stylus like Samsung's S-Pen could be seen in the iPad Plus.

The price of the iPad Pro is expected to be around the same price of the current iPad models after a lull in the tablet market.

According to Value Walk, Apple's move to a larger iPad is logical after the company promised in 2014 to "explore new product niches over the next couple of years." The article continues, "Since then Apple has experienced a raft of outstanding successes, rather reducing the need for the corporation to panic about its portfolio of products."

Seemingly in preparation for the new iPad Pro, current prices of iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 continue to drop, Christian Today reports. Also from the article, "Some retailers seem to be exhausting their stocks of the previous iPad models in order to make room for the future iPad Pro and iPad mini 4 tablets."

Current discounts for the iPad Air 2 range from $35-$60 from B&H Photo, while Best Buy's "extended" Valentine's Day discounts have the first generation 64GB iPad Air at $499.99. The iPad mini 3 is now only $349.99 after a $50 discount.

AT&T and Verizon Wireless have also reduced their prices, with Verizon's Silver 64GB iPad mini 2 now at $424.99 and AT&T's Silver 64GB iPad mini 2 priced at #399.99.
