'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Premiere, Spoilers Update: Ego the Living Planet joining Marvel sequel? James Gunn talks films

By

James Gunn has been pretty clear about Ronan the Accuser's fate in "Guardians of the Galaxy." He's dead. He got blown into little pieces by an Infinity Stone at the end of the movie, and few things are more concrete than that. According to ComicBook.com, Gunn confirmed it for Marvel fans everywhere- Ronan might show up in future Marvel films, but he's definitely not in "Guardians 2" (sorry, Lee Pace).

So who will the villain be in the next "Guardians of the Galaxy" film? We already know a few tidbits about the film- Gunn's mentioned that Nebula, the villain played by Karen Gillian in the first film, will be returning. And it's extremely likely we'll be seeing Star-Lord's father, as Gunn has dropped several hints about that on social media.

MoviePilot has a few ideas for who might be showing up the next time we see the Guardians. Their ideas include Galactus, the Leader, Kang the Conqueror and Thanos- all potentially solid choices (well, not Galactus- he's owned by Fox, not Marvel Studios, so our only chances of Galactus would be in a "Fantastic Four" sequel). Also, the Leader's more an Incredible Hulk villain.

But one character that MoviePilot's caught on to would be absolutely perfect for "Guardians of the Galaxy 2"- Ego the Living Planet. In short, he's a giant, evil planet with a face (and a pretty epic beard) who lives and space and commits various acts of evil. And that's juuuuust insane enough an idea to be perfect in "Guardians 2."

Of course, whether James Gunn acts on that is another story. Either way, he's one of the superhero genre's biggest supporters, recently standing up for comic book movies after the Oscars. Screen Rant reports that Gunn stated:

"If you think people who make superhero movies are dumb, come out and say we're dumb. But if you, as an independent filmmaker or a "serious" filmmaker, think you put more love into your characters than the Russo Brothers do Captain America, or Joss Whedon does the Hulk, or I do a talking raccoon, you are simply mistaken."

Living Planet or no Living Planet, that's a guy we want on our side- and directing "Guardians of the Galaxy 2."
