The "Transformers" series of films has a pretty awful reputation. There hasn't been a single "Transformers" film that's gotten anything close to good reviews- the best the franchise has ever gotten was with the first film, and even that was a so-so 57% with the critics. Since then, each "Transformers" sequel has been shredded by critics everywhere and garnering plenty of Razzies- even if audiences are still going wild for the "Transformers" movies.
But could the latest film, "Transformers 5," actually turn things around for the series? Could we finally end up with a "Transformers" film that's not a complete laughingstock when it comes to reviews?
Hey, anything's possible. And things are slightly more possible when Michael Bay won't be directing the film (which seems to be the case, as published by MoviePilot. They're claiming that Bay will be involved with "Transformers 5" as a producer, but is "steadfast" in keeping with his promise not to direct the next "Transformers" film. Obviously, if Bay's producing, the series will still bear his style (lots of slow-mo, little coherency), but with another filmmaker actually directing the film, we could see a boost to the "Transformers" franchise's critical cred.
Especially if star Peter Cullen (who provides the voice of Optimus Prime) is pushing for the series to be a little more respectable- which he is, according to Crossmap. They're claiming the star is sick of the franchise being trashed by critics, and wants it to return to the older days- specifically, the earlier films in the franchise. Which weren't great, but they were certainly a little better than "Age of Extinction."
We may not even see "Transformers 5" for a while- ComicBook.com has a leaked image that shows Paramount may not released "Transformers 5" until 2016. So the series has plenty of time to play catch-up- and maybe up its credibility just a little bit.
