One of the coolest parts of "X-Men: Apocalypse" is that its setting (the film takes place in the 1980s) allows director Bryan Singer to create young versions of the classic X-Men already seen in the original trilogy. And now, we've got another young mutant hero to add to the cast... probably. Ben Hardy has just been cast in an important part (described as a "key role" by Economic Times), but it hasn't been revealed just who he's playing.
If Hardy's playing a younger version of a character we've already seen, that would make him the fifth young X-Men character to join the film. Already, "X-Men: Apocalypse" has cast Sophie Turner as a young Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as a young Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as a young Nightcrawler and Alexandra Shipp as a young Storm. It seems only natural that Hardy, an actor of a similar age, would be linked to a similar role.
Here's the big question, though: why is Hardy's role being kept a secret? None of the other ones were- presumably, because it's not so big a deal that we know "X-Men: Apocalypse" will have a young Jean Grey or a young Storm. If Hardy's role was the same, wouldn't it have been announced with the same lack of secrecy? It seems to point out that Hardy might not be playing a character we've seen yet.
And there's one character that seems the most likely: Cable. Cable, the son of Cyclops who has telepathic powers, is an extremely important part of the X-Men universe, and it would make sense that Fox would want to keep his involvement a secret for now. Also, Cinema Blend notes that he'd be one of the likeliest candidates for Ben Hardy's role.
On top of everything else, it's also rumored that "X-Men: Apocalypse" will shake up the timeline again- and in a major way, involving Ian McKellan's Magneto. No matter what, it seems like "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be one of the hottest films of 2016."
