"Captain Marvel" is going to be Marvel Studios' first female-led superhero movie- and that's a role that countless actresses are going to be fighting over. Literally- there may be actual Hollywood actresses punching and kicking each other in a contest to win the role of "Captain Marvel."
At least, according to actress Katheryn Winnick, who spoke to MovieWeb about potentially starring in "Captain Marvel," and joked that she'd fight rumored frontrunner Katee Sackhoff if it meant securing a part in the Marvel Universe.
"Are you kidding me? I would love to! I would love to do that. I am such a big fan of those movies and comic books. It would be a dream come true. I love kicking butt. Lagertha, my character in Vikings, kicks butt in the dark ages. It would be interesting to go into the future and do a fantasy one as well."
Later, Winnick mentioned the possibility of Sackhoff getting the part, and brought out some fightin' words:
"Are you asking for a standoff? We can fight it out! We'll see who the best person is for the job! I'll just have a strong sidekick...No, no, no...All kidding. I haven't heard much about it, but I know it would be something I'd be interested in. For sure. Who wouldn't be?"
However, the decision might not come down to a physical brawl. It might come down to Angelina Jolie, who's long been rumored as a director for "Captain Marvel." Celebeat claims that the's in the running to direct the film, but stresses that any reports of Jolie tied to the film are solely rumors- there's been no official confirmation yet. MoviePilot adds more- that Jolie may even star as the first lead heroine in a Marvel film. However, they stress she might not get the part, and may end up playing Spider-Woman instead. Either way, there's about to be an avalanche of female superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
