"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is expected to be one of the biggest films- if not the biggest film- of 2015. Only "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has enough audience clout to actually give Marvel's biggest franchise a run for its money. But can "Avengers: Age of Ultron" really compare, box-office-wise, to the film that came before? And what happens if the film isn't nearly as successful as everyone thinks it will be?
Recently, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" has seen a little bit of flak thrown its way online. For one, the most recent poster for the film has been criticized heavily. Yahoo has a pretty lengthy diatribe on why they don't like it- citing that the heroes and the destruction are both posed in fairly generic ways, the Photoshop is weak and the logo placement is strange and distracting.
Still, a poster isn't enough to dissaude several billion dollars' worth of box-office gold- but Flickering Myth also admits the film may not match the unbelievable success of the first film. The last "Avengers" was a combination of a lot of successful elements, and if the second doesn't tick those same boxes in the same way, it might not turn out so well (or at least, not as well) for "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
Finally, there's Joss Whedon, who straight-up admitted to Blastr that he was surprised Marvel even let him film "Age of Ultron's" ending, citing how strange and large it is.
"[Avengers: Age of Ultron] got larger than the first film. I didn't mean for it to get larger, but the climax that I pitched was completely unhinged and nobody said no, so that's that ... You know they're going to fight Ultron. You know Ultron has a tendency to build hundreds of Ultrons. So that's going to lead you in a certain direction, but the hard work of the thing is making sure everyone feels serviced and integrated."
It could happen. Or "Age of Ultron" might be even bigger than the first. Either way, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will be in theaters on May 1, 2015.
